Day 220 - Understanding the Cosmic Being
Day 220 - Understanding the Cosmic Being
Beyond the Mind and Senses
The Lord clarified: "The self or Siva, which is also called 'that', 'truth', or 'reality', exists beyond the senses. Even when the senses cease, this self exists like limitless space. Scriptures use terms like 'consciousness', 'Brahman', 'Siva', 'self', 'Lord', 'supreme self' to awaken spiritual thirst in the ignorant. Though these words imply diversity, in truth, there is no diversity.
The True Nature of Consciousness
The Lord further explained: "The truth indicated by terms like 'Brahman' is pure consciousness. Compared to it, even space is as gross as a mountain. This pure consciousness appears as the knowable object and gives rise to the concept of intelligence, though it is not an object of knowledge. A momentary conceptualization gives rise to the ego-sense ('I know').
Creation and Perception
The Lord elaborated: "The ego-sense leads to notions of time and space and, with vital energy, becomes the individual (jiva). The individual follows these notions, falling into dense ignorance. The mind, born with the ego-sense and psychological energy, forms the 'ativahika' body, moving from one plane to another. Substances (world objects) corresponding to this body were conceived, leading to senses (sight, touch, hearing, taste, smell) and their experiences, forming the 'puryastaka'.
Perception of Reality
The Illusory Nature of the World
The Lord continued: "These substances appear as modifications in infinite consciousness, like dream objects within oneself. They seem objective but are non-different from infinite consciousness. Realizing the truth, all these shine as the Lord, though this is untrue because they never became material substances. They appear substantial due to our notions, and consciousness sees this substantiality, leading to suffering.
Transcending Conditioning
The Lord concluded: "Conditioning causes sorrow, but the truth is beyond experience, like a mirage. When rejected, only reality remains, without conditioning or being conditioned. It may be called being or non-being, but it alone exists. Mental conditioning is an illusory non-being, and when it ceases, the illusion of creation vanishes. Those who believe the ego-sense and creation are real are unfit for instruction. Preceptors instruct only the wise, not the foolish who cling to world-appearance, like one marrying off a daughter to a man seen only in a dream."
