Day 227 - The Nature of Disturbance in Consciousness
Day 227 - The Nature of Disturbance in Consciousness
Rama asked again:
"In that self which is pure consciousness, how does this mild disturbance arise?"
Vasistha replied:
"I am convinced, O Rama, that the infinite consciousness alone is real and that there is no disturbance at all in its nature. We use words like 'Brahman' for communication, not to imply duality. You, I, and all these things are pure Brahman: there is no ignorance at all."
Rama asked again:
"But at the end of the previous section, you urged me to inquire into the nature of this ignorance!"
Vasistha replied:
"Yes, at that time you were not fully awakened. Expressions like 'ignorance' and 'jiva' are aids to instruct the unawakened. Suitable aids (or tricks) awaken the seeker before imparting the knowledge of the truth. Declaring 'All this is Brahman' to an unawakened person is like petitioning a tree for relief. The unawakened are awakened through suitable aids. The awakened are enlightened by the truth. Now that you are awakened, I declare the truth to you.
Realizing Brahman
"You are Brahman, I am Brahman, the whole universe is Brahman. Realize this truth at all times. Brahman or the self alone is the reality in all beings, just as clay is the substance in thousands of pots. Consciousness and its internal movement (energy) which causes all manifestations are non-different, like wind and its movement. It is the seed of the notion falling on the soil of consciousness that gives rise to apparent diversity. If it does not fall, mind does not sprout."
Advisory to Modern Society
Embrace the wisdom of recognizing the oneness of all existence. Understand that the apparent diversity in the world is an illusion, and the true nature of everything is the infinite consciousness, Brahman. Engage in your activities with a sense of unity, free from the dualities of 'I' and 'mine'. Realize that true peace and joy come from this understanding, leading to a harmonious and enlightened life.
