The Source of Creation Unveiled

Day 43

The Source of Creation Unveiled

In this knowledge point, we explore the origins of the mind and the fundamental cause that leads to the misconception of the mind. This ancient wisdom, conveyed through the dialogue between Ráma and the sage Vasishtha, sheds light on the profound nature of existence.

Understanding the Original Cause

Ráma's Inquiry

Ráma, inquisitive and seeking wisdom, asks the chief sage about the cause that gives rise to the misconception of the mind and the nature of its illusion.

Sage Vasishtha's Revelation

Vasishtha responds by delving into the time of universal dissolution, where all things returned to nothingness. In this state of calm before creation, the only great God, the creator of all, existed—the incomprehensible and undecaying force resembling the everlasting sun.

The Ineffable Creator

Descriptions of the Supreme Being

Vasishtha attempts to describe the indescribable—the supreme being known only to the liberated. This divine entity is referred to by various names and understood differently by different philosophical traditions. It is the prime Male of Sánkhya philosophers, the Brahma of Vedánta followers, and the Intelligence of gnostics.

Attributes of the Supreme Being

This supreme being is the enlightener of light, the embodiment of truth, the source of speech, thought, vision, and all actions. Though ever-existent, it appears nonexistent to the world, residing in all bodies yet seemingly far from them.

The Creator of All Realms

Creation and Dissolution

From this supreme being emanate gods like Vishnu, and infinite worlds come into existence, returning to their source like water returning to the sea. The supreme being permeates all realms, from heaven to earth, residing in every particle and riding on the wings of the wind.

Control Over Creation

This divine force appoints internal and external organs, making inert creatures like stones, and filling the universe with the dichotomy of solidity and fluidity, light and heat.

The Cosmic Dance of Creation

Creation as a Marvel

The supreme being spreads the enchanting scenes of the world like clouds sprinkle rain. It causes the appearance and disappearance of worlds, much like waves in the ocean.

Indestructible Soul

The spirit of the indestructible soul resides within animals, both minute and magnified, lying hidden in their bodies while filling all of existence.

Nature's Magical Display

Prakriti's Role

The nature of the supreme being, known as Prakriti, spreads like a magical creeper, producing the mundane egg (Brahmánda). This outward display of creation mirrors the dancing branches of a plant, stirred by the breeze of life.

Intelligence as a Gem

The supreme being is the gem of intelligence in the human heart, illuminating the entire universe. Its wondrous light displays the worlds, and it is the source from which both the real and unreal derive their existence.

The Essence of Reality and Unreality

Reality and Unreality

The supreme being's entity defines the reality and unreality of all things. It is the insensible soul that turns towards external attractions, while the tranquil soul rests within itself.

Transcendence and Boundless Control

Transcending all existences, the supreme being binds all beings to their destined actions. It remains the unchangeable and self-conscious essence, uninvolved with the world.

Advisory to Modern Society

In contemplating this ancient wisdom, modern society can draw valuable insights:

Embrace the Ineffable: Recognize the limits of language and understanding when exploring profound concepts. Some truths may elude direct expression, urging us to approach them with humility and awe.

Unity in Diversity: Just as different philosophies perceive the supreme being differently, modern society can appreciate diverse perspectives and seek unity in understanding the interconnectedness of existence.

Harmony with Nature: The depiction of the cosmic dance of creation highlights the interconnectedness of all things. Modern society can find inspiration in fostering harmony with nature and understanding our role in the cosmic ballet.

Balance in Creation: The knowledge points towards a balance between action and inaction, creation and dissolution. Modern society can benefit from seeking equilibrium in the pursuit of progress and preservation.

Self-Reflection: The concept of the tranquil soul encourages self-reflection. In a world filled with external distractions, taking moments of introspection can lead to a deeper understanding of oneself and the world.

As we navigate the complexities of life, ancient wisdom provides a guiding light, offering timeless principles for reflection and growth.
