Day 315- The Final Blessing of the Yoga Vasistha
Day 315- The Final Blessing of the Yoga Vasistha
Valmiki's Teaching to Bharadvaja
In the final verses of the Yoga Vasistha, Sage Valmiki addresses Bharadvaja, revealing that the teachings bestowed upon Rama and the royal assembly have led them to supreme wisdom and liberation. Valmiki encourages Bharadvaja to adopt the same enlightened attitude and live as a liberated sage, free from doubt and firmly rooted in wisdom. He reassures that anyone who listens to or studies this scripture can attain self-knowledge, rise beyond worldly entanglements, and experience the state of liberation.
Valmiki also declares that even those who recite or copy this scripture without fully grasping its meaning acquire great merit. They will ultimately achieve liberation, albeit after further lifetimes, experiencing fulfillment and heavenly joys along the way.
The Blessings of the Heavenly Messenger
Having shared these teachings, Valmiki turns to King Aristanemi, who expresses his gratitude, feeling as though he has crossed the ocean of worldly existence. The heavenly messenger who brought the king to hear these teachings expresses joy and returns to Indra’s abode, filled with the knowledge of the truth.
The Conversations of Agnivesya and Karunya, Agastya and Sutiksna
Further conversations echo the liberation conveyed in the scripture. Agnivesya, having imparted the teachings to his son Karunya, leaves him free of delusion and resolved to live a life of non-volitional activity, effortlessly aligned with the cosmic flow.
Agastya, too, instructs Sutiksna, who acknowledges that his ignorance has been dispelled and his mind fully illuminated. Sutiksna now sees the objects of the world as waves within the boundless ocean of consciousness. With gratitude, he offers reverence to Agastya and to the supreme consciousness, acknowledging that his journey across the ocean of samsara is complete.
Valmiki’s Closing Invocation
Finally, the scripture concludes with an invocation to the supreme reality, affirming that the entire teaching rests on the foundation of Brahman, the infinite consciousness. With humility and reverence, the sacred text of the Yoga Vasistha closes with “OM Tat Sat,” declaring the ultimate truth and the end of this timeless scripture.
